Wheat Yield Estimation
How to Estimate Wheat Yield Using CalculatedAg.com
Accurately estimating wheat yield helps farmers optimize harvest planning, grain sales, and field management. Use this step-by-step guide to estimate your wheat yield using CalculatedAg.com's wheat yield estimation calculator.
-
-
Count the Number of Wheat Heads
Count the total number of wheat heads within a 5-foot section of the row. Enter this value in the calculator. -
Count Kernels from Five Sample Wheat Heads
Select five random wheat heads from your sample row and count the total number of kernels. The calculator will determine the average kernel count per head. -
Enter Row Spacing
Input the row spacing in inches. This helps determine the plant density per acre. Common row spacings include:- 7.5 inches → Standard for drilled wheat
- 10 inches → Less common but used in some systems
-
Calculate Wheat Yield Estimate
Click the "Calculate Yield Estimate" button. The tool will compute the estimated bushels per acre using:
(((Number of Heads) x Avg Kernels per Head) ÷ Row Spacing) x 0.48
This formula accounts for plant population, kernel density, and estimated test weight.
For the most accurate results: Sample multiple areas of your field and average the data across different locations.
